Caring for luffa gourds (Luffa aegyptiaca), also known as loofah or sponge gourds, involves several key steps to ensure healthy growth and fruitful harvests. Here’s a comprehensive guide based on your needs:


Planting: Start luffa seeds indoors about 4-6 weeks before the last expected frost or directly in the ground in warmer climates after the frost danger has passed. Soak seeds for 24 hours before planting to enhance germination. Plant them about ½ inch deep in well-draining soil, ideally in a sunny location as luffas require a lot of sunlight—at least 6 hours per day​.
